Capelinhos

IG Açores

In September 1957, a violent submarine eruption gave birth to Capelinhos, creating Portugal’s youngest land and burying the surrounding fields in volcanic ash.
In 2016, Adega do Vulcão revived this forgotten terroir, planting 7 hectares of native vines directly in the ash.
In 2024, the first Capelinhos (2023 harvest) is bottled – a rare, mineral-driven expression of a newborn landscape.

Vinification

The grapes are rigorously selected in the vineyard and transported in small crates to be quickly and gently pressed in a vertical press with inerting. The wine undergoes a pre-fermentation maceration, followed by fermentation in cooled cement tulip vats with indigenous yeasts and ageing on the lees for 12 months.

Tasting note

On the nose, aromas of stone, citrus fruit and floral nuances. On the palate, very intense acidity with deep salinity, more rock than sea air.

Serving suggestion

Excellent as an aperitif and delicious as a complement to seafood and fish dishes.
